We received a number of emails from readers regarding their inability to install the Appstore Amazon for Android on their AT&T Android phones.  The option "unknown sources" application in the settings menu is missing, which prevents the application from installing.

Unfortunately, it is not possible without a bit of hacking to re-install the Appstore on these phones; AT&T is deliberately removed the option to install third party applications, i.e. apps off Android market.  And that, as they say, is that.

In the end, only customer complaints have any hope of changing this ridiculous block.  But until AT&T allows 3rd party applications to be installed, if you want the Appstore Amazon-or any non-market applications – on your Android phone AT&T, must be eradicated.

Typhoid is not for everyone; jailbreaking the phone is essentially to allow greater flexibility in the operation of the device.  There are many methods for Android phones, including the Atrix AT&T 4 G typhus (see as the Atrix 4 G of Root and How to eradicate the Samsung Captivate).  If this interests you, proceed with caution.

At the end of March, Engadget reported that AT&T is working on allowing the Appstore Amazon to run on their Android devices, although no details have been forthcoming in six weeks after the story ran.

If you're a fan of Google Voice and a Sprint Wireless account, you have good reason today to celebrate; Have joined Google and Sprint together to give unprecedented customization of Google Voice users on their mobile phones.

This service is compatible with all phones with Sprint, including brand Sprint Android phones.

While the service is free, minutes used continue to be deducted from your monthly allotment of voice.  You must have a Google Voice account as well.

Reports last week explained that Microsoft is seriously in play and that the future will probably be a troika of Android, Windows Phone and Windows Phone with iOS, passing the iPhone by 2015. This week I'll point you to these reports, alert the user to Microsoftâ € ™ s attention in relation to the â € œhomebrew update, â € and even difficulties with an HTC updates.

Windows phone to be # 2 by 2015

Partly due to Microsoftâ € ™ s Alliance with Nokia, market research, companies expect Windows Phone will be a major player within a few years, reaching the number 3 spot in 2013, catching for the iPhone in 2014 and outpacing the iPhone in 2015.

This is according to a report by Gartner, Inc. Android is expected to be the clear winner, capturing half of the smartphone market by the end of 2012 and remain at that level through 2015. A article about ZDNet compare Gartnerâ € ™ s analysis with a similar report a month earlier by rival Gartner IDC that came to nearly identical conclusions.

And according to a brief report from Reuters, Nokia-Microsoft talks are going as planned and should conclude by the end of April. The report says that they plan to release a bunch of Windows phones in 2012.

11,500 applications available

A key to the success of Windows Phone is if the platform will attract developers, since the availability of applications that can make or break a smartphone. And the news was generally good, with 11,500 apps is now available for Windows Phone 7.

Furthermore, according to a story from CNET, 7,500 of those apps are paid, while another 1,110 generate revenue through ads. Microsoft said that Windows Phone users are downloading an average of 12 apps per month. It's impressive how far things have come in six months.

Last week we noticed a couple of hacks, including Updater ChevronWP7, enabling eager Windows Phone users update their device without having to wait for Microsoft to make it available.

Two days later, Microsoft said, donâ € ™ t dot and urge users to wait for the official update. And the developer of the hack removed from its website and explained why.

Moreover, some owners of HTC, which had received the Microsoft Update legit then got a message saying that a update is available for the HTC phones. It wasnâ € ™ t clear what this update offered, but some of those who found that it updated messed up their phones decreasing the bit depth. Somehow these things just don't seem to ever go right.

We have weathered a lot of false rumors regarding the arrival of a Windows phone Verizon, but now it seems that really is going to happen. Soon. This week I'll also point you to some suggestions of Windows Phone 7 practical from the developers themselves. And we'll look at the latest that Nokia has taken in pursuance of their Windows phone offers.

HTC trophy from Verizon

Sprint was released with the first CDMA phone in March, and many have been waiting for the Verizon offering, the HTC Trophy. Now it seems finally to be imminent.

Clue number 1 is that the phone is listed on the website of Verizon as "coming soon". Clue number 2 is a voice that Verizon employees are receiving training on Windows Phone in preparation for the launch. And clue number 3 is that Verizon has created a forum for users of Windows Phone 7.

The trophy has a 3 WVGA display. 8 inch, 5 megapixel camera and a 1 GHz processor.

Microsoft engineers Share Windows phone 7 tips

It's nice to see the engineers to make efforts to help consumers get the most out of their Windows phone from Microsoft.

In a post on the Windows Team Blog, the engineer who led the development of the keyboard on the screen gives seven tips for saving time and getting the most. For example, you can simply double-tap the SPACEBAR at the end of a sentence in order to add a period and begin the next sentence with a capital automatically. And tapping the "+" in the bar tip teaches the phone a new Word. The keyboard also has hidden menus that you can see touching and pressed several, such as the period.

Also, an interesting article on the Microsoft Research website explains how the keyboard uses "machine learning" to correct intelligently you type. The goal is for you to tap quickly and do not necessarily accurately, and that therefore the device translates the text typed approximation rapidly intelligible. This is pretty awesome.

In addition, an engineer has posted his favorite three Tips for using Internet Explorer Mobile. They include how to search faster, how to create and customize a tile, and how to display the desktop version of a Web site, rather than a mobile-optimized version.

Nokia continues to Shift Focus, iPhone developers Microsoft Lures

Microsoft is, of course, losing money on Windows Phone 7. But the company tends to take the long view: it took six years for the Xbox to be profitable. : Provides a useful perspective on the situation.

Lately, it looks like Sprint has become somewhat of a refuge for Android devices.  Most top end Android devices seem to land there ... almost to the exclusion of other mobile operating systems.  So, I was pretty excited when Windows Phone 7, which I had waited patiently for test of sorts, finally abandoned on the CDMA network in the form of HTC arrive, the only device Windows Phone to feature a full keyboard and scrollable.  I took the HTC who come through its paces.  Bottom line, this is an incredibly powerful operating system.  The main attraction here is the live tiles, which transmit information about applications on the device, even when they are active.  Yet, as this OS is revolutionary, is clearly still a first generation device, and there is much room for expansion and improvement.  You can check out my full review and the wishlist to Just another Mobile Monday.  Meanwhile, stay tuned here as I will be checking out a lot of software and bring you all my thoughts on some of the best App market has to offer.

When I decided that I needed to replace my phone terribly expired-an old Nextel i1000plus-my thoughts wandered to the end to a pda phone. For those who know me, this probably looked like a no brainer. I have a long history of pda dependence going back years Palm 3 X. However, I already had a pda that I was quite satisfied. For the last year and a half that I used HP iPAQ 2215 for everything from a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), an e-book reader, an MP3 player, a portfolio of photos, an alarm clock, a mobile web browsers (using compact flash wifi card)among many other things. Trying to cram a telephone all this seemed to be overwhelming, but the curiosity-and my need for a new gadget-got the better of me. My research was twofold-looking for a new phone and a new provider. With my current mobile provider did not get any reception in my house so I need to find a vector which has done.

Through various means like my unscientific opinion polls to friends and work associates in conjunction with some research on the internet that reduced my way to Cingular or Verizon. Both tended to get high marks from users interviewed and internet search. With this part of the equation processed that I went online to see what kind of phones each had to offer. I was willing to go with a commitment of two years in hopes of getting a better deal on your phone and price plan. Also I wanted to get a group where my wife and I could share minutes.

So, now I'm looking for on the respective websites of each company for their State-of-the-art, Pocket PC phones. I'm not talking about smart phones – these are phones with Pocket PC software jammed into a tiny screen that isn't even a touch screen-that just wouldn't fit my needs. I'm talking about the full blown, "because they speak into your computer?" Pocket PC Phone-uber-geeks, pocket protector included powerhouse type micro computer. After all, they are now married and I'm not really worried about public opinion or impress anyone with my phone new stylish, elegant, sexy.

I hope to spend about $ 300. 00. I guess I can sell my iPAQ 2215 on eBAY for $ 200.00 and $ 100.00 for a new phone seems like a good deal.

So, what I find is a heck of a price tag. Verizon has the much talked about Treo 700. This is the first Treo with the operating system Pocket PC-Windows Mobile 5. 0. This comes to $ 500.00. Way too expensive for me and did not even Wifi.

Best price of Cingular phone Pocket PC wasn't much better. I could get a HP iPAQ hw6510 for $ 400.00. Once again, no wifi. This is a real sticking point for me. I see no reason why a device designed for communication would leave out of this specification. Be able to connect to an 802. 11b/g wireless network when it is available is a necessity.

Okay, back to the drawing board, maybe I can try this from a different angle-Ebay.

Looking up "Pocket PC phone" on Ebay you get a lot of shots with a good selection of the latest Pocket PC phones and older. At this point I'm thinking that I could get something perhaps a little used that would satisfy all my needs. This would give me even a good cross-section of exactly what is out there and what functions are available in this type of gadget.
After going through a lot of auction descriptions and cross referencing websites of manufacturers had set on a particular phone, Siemens SX66 my sites. This particular phone/pda combo was offered by Cingular until recently, and has not shown is no longer on their website. It seemed to fit my wishlist: a fast 400 mhz xscale processor, Bluetooth, wifi, and SDIO slot had a slide keyboard for text input. So, I looked at some auctions and kept an eye on prices.

But, sometimes you just get out of the internet and hit the bricks and Malta. I went to my local stores of Verizon and Cingular and talked to the sales representatives on what I was looking for. I wasn't impressed with my long wait at the Verizon Wireless store or pushy salesman that I got. He seemed to think he knew just what he needed and kept showing me phones and plans that I wasn't only interested in.

I had a different experience at the Cingular store. The sales rep showed me a map of cell coverage around my house, spoke to me the plans I had seen on the website, and when I told him that I had been considering a Siemens SX66 Pocket PC phone on Ebay went in the back of the shop and went out with that last SX66 they had. Signed a 2-year contract with Cingular that night with a heck of a good deal on a Pocket PC phone that had all the specs that I had been looking for.

And you know what? I can also talk on my Siemens SX66 sitting in my living room.
